Sift together flour and salt; set aside. Cream butter and sugar; blend in eggs and vanilla. Beat well and add dry ingredients; mix well.
Flatten out small dough balls and indent centers. (Cookies should be about an inch in diameter.) Spoon about ¼ teaspoon jam into the indentation in center of cookie. Sprinkle with pecans and bake, 375 degress for 10-12 minutes.
