CAPIROTADA

This lenton dessert was a tradition on Ash Wednesday. It supplimented meatless meals, but we considered it more a treat than a sacrifice!

Ingredients

Syrup

Mix all ingredients and boil until thickened to a syrup.

1 loaf sliced french bread, toasted
8 oz salted peanuts
8 oz cup walnuts, cut in pieces
8 oz blanched whole almonds
1 cup raisins
1 cup grated cheese
syrup


Directions

Layer all ingredients in a large casserole dish or roaster. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or heat on top of the stove over low heat for 15 minutes. Serve alone or with vanilla ice cream.
